Anne E Houghton – Founder of the Raunds Community Choir
I started the choir in January 2010 and was the chairman until 2016. I wanted to contribute to the community of Raunds and the surrounding area and I felt a choir , open to all abilities, would do this.
Being part of the choir is something that I very much enjoy and the fact that so many others now enjoy that too, is very fulfilling.
My other interests include being part of Raunds Ukuleles which I have been since its formation, being on the committee that manages St Peter’s Community Enterprise Centre, and for many years as a member of The Scout Association.
I have two grown-up children, who have both made me very proud, and two wonderful grandsons.
I love travelling and continue to make plans to see the rest of the world.
Sally Beavis – Director of Music
After gaining a BMus (Hons) from Surrey University, Sally was in demand both as a piano teacher and accompanist, working with singers and instrumentalists. She continued her studies with John Barstow, gaining the ARCM from the Royal College of Music, being one of the few external candidates to do so.
Sally has worked extensively in musical education devising and producing workshops specifically for young musicians at the beginning of their musical careers. As founding director of the Wimbledon School of Performing Arts she enabled many children the opportunity to experience dance, drama and music beyond that normally available in schools.
As a conductor she has led numerous choirs, including the Surrey County Children’s Choir. The group performed both individually and as part of large-scale productions throughout Surrey. They performed at the Royal Albert hall and The Barbican. Her work with adult groups has been equally exciting, leading the ladies and mixed choirs in Surrey and Cambridgeshire.
As a violinist she performed with the Hatcham Chamber Orchestra during their yearly residencies to North Norfolk, where she also took on the role of head chef!
After she had her children she made a decision to change career path and qualified as a primary school teacher, specialising in early years education. She is currently leader of Foundation Stage at Croyland Primary School in Wellingborough.
Sally enjoys her work with Raunds Community Choir and is continually humbled by the passion and dedication with which they work.
